New Website Maps 1800+ Independent Donut Shops Across All 50 States
Glazed and Amused tracks independent donut shops in all 50 states and launches with 17 mapped donut trails, including a VT cider donut run for peak leaf season.
The best donut shops rarely have the biggest sign. When I go home to Ohio to visit my dad, I still drive 20 minutes every morning to the shop I loved as a kid. Most towns have a place like that.”
WASHINGTON, DC, DC, UNITED STATES, October 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- There are many ways to find a donut in the United States. Glazed and Amused is interested in the ones with a story and worth the drive.— Craig Bowman, Chief Donut Scout
The new directory, live at glazedandamused.food, catalogs more than 1,800 independent, family-run donut shops across all 50 states. It has one firm rule: no chains, no franchises, no corporate parents.
The listings are only the start. The site maps 17 donut trails, which are stories and routes that tie shops together by region or tradition. Some are drivable routes with stops in order. Others are threads that connect shops across the country by a shared idea.
The timeliest is the Vermont Cider Donut Run, an eight-orchard, farm-stand route meant to be driven over a fall weekend, launching as leaf season peaks across New England. Its bigger Midwestern cousin, the Michigan-to-Ohio Cider Mill Run, follows water wheels and old presses from metro Detroit to an orchard east of Cleveland.
Other trails include:
• The Pink Box. How Cambodian refugee families turned a plain cardboard box into the emblem of the Los Angeles donut shop.
• The Giant Donuts of Los Angeles. Ten rooftop donuts went up across Los Angeles County in the 1950s. Five of the buildings still stand, and you can drive to all of them in a day.
• The Potato Belt. Maine, Mississippi, and Idaho each arrived at the same idea on their own: put potato in the donut.
• Sold Out By Ten. Small shops that fry one batch, sell every donut, and lock the door.
• The Century Club. Shops that opened before 1930 and never stopped.
• The Amish Donut Trail. Scratch yeast donuts and bake-day shops from Holmes County, Ohio, to northern Indiana and beyond.
• Pączki Day and Malasada Day. Two immigrant traditions that claim the same Fat Tuesday.
For readers who want their own route, the site's "Plan my donut run" tool asks for a starting city, how many hours you have, and what you're craving, whether that's fritters, old-fashioned donuts, kolaches, or something vegan. It then builds a loop through independent shops in the directory. Each route opens in Google Maps and can be shared with a link.
Visitors can also find the closest shops with a single "near me" button, save favorites, and suggest shops or whole trails the site has missed.
"The best donut in town is rarely the one with the biggest sign," said site creator Craig Bowman. "When I go home to Ohio to visit my dad, I still drive 20 minutes every morning to the donut shop I loved as a kid. Most towns have a place like that. I want to ensure they're remembered."
Ratings come in two flavors. Visitors rate what they've tried. The site's Donut Scout (Craig) rates only what he has personally eaten, which is slower but consistent.
Shop owners can claim their listings for free to correct details or add information. The site is free to use, and shops can't pay to be listed.
A cartoon donut named Doughie will show you around. Bring napkins.
