Locks and Dam 15 Webcam Returns

A live webcam overlooking Locks and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River has returned to serve as a practical resource for maritime watchers and local motorists across the Quad Cities.

Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, the camera provides a real-time view of lock operations and the adjacent Government Bridge, which connects Davenport, Iowa, and Rock Island, Illinois.

For years, a webcam had operated at the site before being taken offline a few years back due to the scheduled demolition of the tower it was mounted to, and outdated technology. A new camera was recently installed by the Mississippi River Project in response to strong community interest and ongoing public requests for the feed.

Today, the stream remains popular with river enthusiasts and industry watchers monitoring commercial towboats and barges transiting the 600-foot lock chamber.

Area commuters also rely on the feed to check traffic conditions before crossing the river. The Government Bridge features a swing span that rotates open to allow tows to pass, temporarily halting roadway and rail traffic. By checking the stream, drivers can see whether the bridge is turned for river traffic or open to vehicles, helping them plan their routes and avoid delays.
